23. Is special clothing worn at a Masonic meeting? In America the custom is for everyone to
dress in pure white. In some other countries, women dress in white and men in black (a
tuxedo or business suit). Sometimes everyone dresses in black. And in some countries there
is no special dress. The clothing worn is a matter of local custom and is not part of
Masonic essentials. However, in regular Craft Lodge meetings, each member of the Lodge
wears an apron, which is an ornamental version of a garment worn by operative
stonemasons in former days. It has symbolical meanings.
